Summary

Rex Hematology/Oncology is seeking a dynamic and compassionate Certified Medical Assistant to provide exceptional patient care through positivity, compassion, and teamwork. Our team is comprised of individuals who deliver high-quality care in a fun and family-oriented environment. The office is located in Garner, NC, and the work hours are Monday-Friday, 8 am - 4:30 pm.

Responsibilities
  1. Perform routine clinical and administrative support to providers and other healthcare team members in an outpatient clinic setting.
  2. Collect patient and family data, including medical and social history, and review patient's current medication list, allergies, and preferred pharmacy.
  3. Assist the provider as directed during treatments, examinations, and procedures.
  4. Collect specimens and perform phlebotomy, administer medications under the direction of a provider, and perform tests, such as EKG and eye exams, under the direction of a provider.
  5. Review the patient record to determine whether patient requires any routine health screenings.
  6. Ensure exam/procedure room contains appropriate supplies, equipment, forms, and educational materials are available and ready for use during visit/procedure.
  7. Provide patient with after-visit, follow-up, self-care, or procedural instructions and/or educational materials as directed.
  8. Prepare, clean, stock, and maintain exam and treatment rooms, clean and sterilize instruments, and assist with patient registration, check-in/check-out, appointment scheduling, and scheduling of tests and treatments, and referrals.
  9. Answer clinic telephone and assist in-basket under the direction of a provider or nurse, and assist in emergency situations as directed by a provider or nurse.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Precept new medical assistant/credentialed medical assistant hires and medical assistant externs.
  • Train other medical assistants in clinic procedures.
  • Assist the physician with maintaining preventive health measures for a panel of patients.
Requirements
  • Requires Medical Assistant certification by either the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Association of Health Professionals (NRCMA), or National Center for Competency Testing (NCMA).
  • Basic Life Support Certification from American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) required.
  • Possess at least one year of full-time experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified.
  • Demonstrate possession of the competencies outlined in the Medical Assistant, Certified Advancement Worksheet through their application and interview.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position as outlined above.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage positively with patients and families and to work as a team with staff and providers.
