The YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Swim Team Coach to lead our swim team program. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for creating a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading swim team participants through workouts and maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas.
- Creating a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
- Administering, supervising, and leading the swim team program, including practices, swim meets, parent meetings/orientations, and team events.
- Maintaining the highest level of safety for all participants in the pool area, preventing accidents, and responding to emergencies quickly and efficiently.
- Providing administrative support, including obtaining required paperwork from participants and submitting meet entries to the league coordinator.
- Maintaining a positive and continuous relationship with parents through ongoing communication and team updates.
Requirements include:
- Minimum age of 21.
- Current YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguarding, American Safety & Health Institute, or American Red Cross or American Heart Association CPR for the Professional Rescuer and American Safety & Health Institute, American Red Cross or American Heart Association Standard/Community First Aid certifications.
- 2-3 years competitive swim experience and/or thorough knowledge of competitive swimming, including current techniques, USS rules, meet operation, etc.
- At least 1 year of coaching experience or 5 years of swim instruction experience.
- Ability to maintain required certification and demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
Preferred schedule availability includes year-round weekday practices in the afternoons and full weekends during the competitive season.
