Position Overview

The role of a Senior Forensic Analyst is critical in the analysis of Controlled Dangerous Substances, providing expert testimony in legal proceedings.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive chemical evaluations on submitted samples.
• Draft detailed analytical reports to support criminal investigations.
• Review and validate findings from fellow analysts within the unit.
• Serve as an expert witness in court, explaining analytical methods and results.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, genetics, medical technology, pharmaceutical science, or a related field from an accredited institution.

Experience: A minimum of three years in comparative analysis or scientific assessment of evidence, including experience in providing expert testimony in legal settings.

Substitution Options: Additional relevant experience may be substituted for educational requirements on a year-for-year basis. A Master’s degree may substitute for one year of experience, while a Doctorate may substitute for two years.

Selective Qualifications

Education: Completion of at least one course in analytical chemistry and one in organic chemistry from an accredited institution.

Preferred Qualifications

• Three years of experience in the analysis of Controlled Dangerous Substances.
• Experience with validation processes using Gas Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry, or Liquid Chromatography.
• Experience in drafting Standard Operating Procedures for substance analysis.

Licenses and Certifications

Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license and any necessary certifications related to forensic disciplines is required.

Special Requirements

Availability for on-call duties and compliance with random substance abuse testing protocols is mandatory.
