Job Summary

Under the direction of the District Nurse, the Licensed Vocational Nurse/Licensed Psychiatric Technician provides support and/or administers student medication. The incumbent evaluates the basic physical/mental health of students to assess medication efficacy, side effects, and adverse reactions. In collaboration with the school/public health nurse, the Licensed Vocational Nurse/Licensed Psychiatric Technician works with teachers, parents, and physicians to address side effects and adjustments. The incumbent obtains physicians' orders for medication needed at school and requests refills.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate the basic physical/mental health of students to assess medication efficacy, side effects, and adverse reactions.
  • Administer student medication under the direction of the District Nurse.
  • Collaborate with the school/public health nurse, teachers, parents, and physicians to address side effects and adjustments.
  • Obtain physicians' orders for medication needed at school and request refills.
Requirements
  • Current California Licensed Vocational Nurse License or California Psychiatric Technician License in good standing.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Valid California Driver's License.
  • Incumbents must obtain specialized health care training given by the school/public health nurse within 90 days of employment.
