Job Overview:

The Civil/Structural Engineer 2 plays a critical role in supporting proposals, reviewing designs, and providing operations support for a utility scale PV EPC contractor in the US. This position involves leading proposal-level design efforts on a project basis, working closely with the Estimating Department, Operations, and Senior Renewables leadership to ensure designs meet code, are within scope, and align with the corporation's directives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review client-provided reports, including geotechnical, topographical, environmental/ecological, hydrological, and flooding studies.
  • Conduct approximately 10-30% design of the civil and structural aspects of a project, focusing on pile design, grading, roads, and erosion control.
  • Collaborate with Procurement to evaluate technology, materials, and alternatives that position Primoris as a leader in the industry.
  • Work closely with the Estimating team to capture all scope of work, design aspects, and client-specific requirements.
  • Partner with clients to understand their engineering and design needs, using this insight to lead the engineering group in conceptualizing and designing efficient and competitive PV systems.
  • Support project teams by working with the Engineer of Record to address civil and structural questions and concerns during the design and construction phase.
  • Review and provide comments on the Structural design package provided by the Engineer of Record at 30%, 60%, 90%, and IFC milestones.
Requirements:
  • B.S. Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (or equivalent) from an ABET-accredited college.
  • Professional Engineering License (or geotechnical equivalent) preferred.
  • 6+ years of engineering and/or construction experience preferred.
  • Preference given for experience in construction, solar, BESS, renewable energy, or power generation.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local structural regulations.
  • Valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR).
  • Role includes supporting multiple projects site locations with travel up to 15% of the time.
  • Proven experience with L-Pile design software preferred.
Preferred Skills/Abilities:
  • Interpersonal skills – Ability to present information to a small group of employees or subcontractors.
  • Effective communication skills (oral, written, listening, presentation) to effectively work with subcontractors and employees.
  • Computer literacy. This does not include knowledge of all software to be used, but the ability to learn to use efficiently the software which is in use. Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio).
  • Organization skills. Scheduling, planning, and prioritization.
  • Advanced construction drawing knowledge. Knowledge of drawing layouts, references, notes, and good practices associated with producing and reading construction drawings.
  • Ability to follow safety rules without cutting corners. To understand the intent of safety rules, not blindly adhering to the literal words of the rule.
