Job Title: Controls Engineer - Packaging Department

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Controls Engineer to join our Packaging Department. As a Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing control systems for automated packaging equipment. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring the efficient and reliable operation of our machines.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop control systems for complex packaging equipment
  • Create electrical schematics and panel layouts using 2D CAD software
  • Write PLC and HMI software to operate packaging machines
  • Implement hardware and software modifications to improve equipment capabilities and efficiency
  • Document designs and engineering decisions for future reference
  • Provide technicians with sufficient documentation for proper assembly
  • Supervise electrical assembly process and note problem areas
  • Assist with machine debugging, acceptance testing, installation, and troubleshooting
  • Interface with sales, customers, field service, and R&D for all stages of the project
  • Provide technical assistance to customers and technicians
  • Interface with vendors and purchasing department to obtain quotations and necessary parts
  • Provide technical feedback to sales and management on feasibility and cost
  • Maintain organized file system for engineering documents
  • Contribute to the creation of service manuals
  • Assist with software license maintenance duties
  • Share technical knowledge with customers and personnel in formal and informal training settings
  • Submit regular progress reports and trip reports

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED certificate
  • 4-year engineering degree preferred (2-year technical college degree plus technical work experience can be substituted)
  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing or production environment
  • 3+ years of experience writing and troubleshooting code with RS Logix, Studio 5000, and FactoryTalk software
  • Experience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, Siemens SIMATIC, Wonderware, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word software preferred

Physical Effort and Dexterity:

  • Must be able to speak, write, and understand English proficiently
  • Working knowledge of Italian is desirable but not necessary
  • Must be able to see clearly enough to safely navigate customer and industrial sites
  • Must be able to climb in, onto, and over existing packaging equipment
  • Must be able to sustain long periods of standing in production facilities
  • Must be able to operate an automobile and have a valid driver's license
  • Must be able to operate a PC keyboard and telephone

Environment and Scheduling:

  • Must be able to tolerate temperature extremes when assessing customer plants and equipment
  • This position will require limited overnight travel, both domestic and international
  • Normal work week is Monday through Friday with occasional weekends depending on project workload
