Position Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Quality Control Supervisor, the Quality Control Chemist is responsible for conducting various tests and analyzing samples in the laboratory for cement production.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect samples of raw materials, fuel, and products for quality assessment.
- Perform chemical and physical analyses on samples.
- Prepare solutions necessary for conducting chemical tests.
- Maintain accurate records of all tests performed.
- Calibrate testing apparatus and keep calibration documentation.
- Oversee the maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Engage in CCRL and inter-plant quality control testing initiatives.
- Ensure cleanliness of assigned laboratory areas.
- Input test results into the computer system daily.
- Manage inventory and order laboratory consumables.
- Execute additional tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of 60 college credit hours from an accredited institution, including at least 8 hours in Chemistry or related sciences.
Essential Skills and Knowledge
- Proficient in reading, writing, and verbal communication in English.
- Adept at resolving operational issues as they arise.
- Comprehensive understanding of plant operations affecting product quality.
- Familiarity with calculators and computer systems.
- High level of manual dexterity and precision.
- Preferred knowledge of equipment used in cement manufacturing.
- Awareness of safety hazards related to responsibilities.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical functions.
- Basic understanding of plant operations.
- Proven record of safety and work performance.
- Knowledge of Lockout/Tagout procedures and safety protocols.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to work rotating shifts.
- Ability to lift and carry 35 pounds up two flights of stairs twice daily.
- Capable of working at heights exceeding 50 feet.
- Must lift and carry 20 pounds for distances up to 200 yards, twelve times daily, including climbing stairs.
- Physical demands include visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand-eye coordination, and various physical movements.
- Must utilize appropriate Personal Protective Equipment as required.
Working Conditions
Must be prepared to work in diverse weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain. The environment may be noisy, with sound levels reaching up to 120 dBA, and may involve exposure to dust, cement, clay, and other materials.
