Resident Engineer

H2M architects engineers, a multidiscipline architectural, engineering, environmental consulting firm, seeks a Resident Engineer in our Melville office to oversee and direct the resident engineering construction observation teams assigned to various infrastructure projects.
In this position, you will work closely with the client's management team and the construction contractor to deliver successful projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides oversight management on assigned projects and all staff assigned to projects.
- Leads all project site coordination meetings.
- Ensures the required testing and inspection of materials used on projects is performed in accordance with approved plans, specifications, and ordinances on behalf of clients/owners.
- Provides quality assurance, testing procedures, observation protocols, construction techniques, and timely completion of daily observation activities.
- Reviews plans for assigned projects, observes, and inspects construction work performed by others and attends pre-construction conferences, progress meetings, and safety meetings.
- Interprets drawings and specifications.
- Monitors contract cost and schedule; reviews change order preparation as necessary.
- Reviews submittals and other related construction documents and recommends technical solutions.
- Performs daily construction observation, daily reports, punch list inspections, and participates in project schedule/invoice reviews.
- Reviews and approves contractor requisitions for payment.
- Mentors and/or supervises junior staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college required.
- Valid NYS P.E. License required.
- Minimum 7-10 years' experience in construction inspection and/or management of infrastructure projects (water, wastewater, road construction, architectural/mason construction, etc.).
- Must have strong communication skills to lead and direct project initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to tactfully shift priorities and solve problems at multiple levels.
The salary range for this role is $110,000 - $150,000 annually. The employment offer may deviate from this published range based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, experience, specialty, knowledge, education, geography, and/or related certifications - not related to any applicant's characteristics protected by local, state, or federal law.
