Job Summary:

As a Veterinary Technician with Seminole County, FL, you will play a vital role in the care and well-being of shelter animals. Your primary responsibility will be to assist the Veterinarian in managing the shelter population by performing technical duties such as vaccinations, medications, and blood tests. You will also be responsible for evaluating the health of shelter animals and advising the Veterinarian on medical treatment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate the health of shelter animals and advise the Veterinarian on medical treatment.
  • Perform technical duties such as vaccinations, medications, and blood tests.
  • Assist the Veterinarian in managing the shelter population.
  • Physically examine all incoming animals for signs of injury or illness.
  • Administer medications as directed.
  • Collect and test blood, urine, and fecal samples.
  • Maintain medical records and drug logs.
  • Monitor inventory of medications, surgical supplies, and kennel supplies.
  • Perform surgical preparation and anesthesia administration and monitoring.
  • Clean and disinfect the shelter areas.
  • Maintain all cages and equipment in a good state of repair.
  • Operate onsite crematory and prepare animal remains.
  • Assist the Animal Control Officers and function as an Animal Control Officer when required.

Requirements:
  • High School diploma or GED and two years' experience as a Veterinarian Technician or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Veterinarian Technician Certification preferred.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with the public, Veterinarians, staff, and volunteers engaged in the care of animals.
  • Ability to handle animals of various sizes and demeanor in a safe and effective manner.
  • Must be inoculated against rabies prior to completion of probationary period.
