About the Role

The Practical Nursing Specialist is tasked with enhancing the overall experience of residents and their families by delivering essential nursing care and leadership to ensure the health and well-being of those who rely on Grand Living for support. This role involves providing direct care and administering medications to residents under the orders of an attending physician for Assisted Living care, in compliance with state regulations. Additionally, the Practical Nursing Specialist is responsible for evaluating and ensuring the clinical competence of assigned nursing staff, assisted living aides, and medication aides through participation in orientation, education, and supervision via regular rounds. This should be conducted in a friendly, courteous, helpful, timely, and professional manner, resulting in high satisfaction levels among residents and team members. The Practical Nursing Specialist operates under the general guidance of the Director of Health and Wellness, adhering to community standards, processes, procedures, practices, and philosophy.

Qualifications and Requirements

The Practical Nursing Specialist must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Associate's Degree in Nursing, required.
  • Three or more years of nursing experience, preferred.
  • Experience in assisted living or home health care, preferred.
  • Must hold a valid Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse license in the state of employment, required.
  • Ability to obtain any government-required licenses or certifications.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and understanding the English language to educate, train, and supervise staff; engage with residents and their families for appropriate assessments and personalized care plan development; utilize and instruct others on operational software for care documentation and record-keeping; and communicate effectively with colleagues.
  • Knowledgeable of resident rights and committed to fostering an environment that respects the privacy, dignity, and well-being of all residents in a safe and secure setting.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, crouch, bend, stoop, reach, grasp, push, pull, and work continuously without sitting for extended periods.
  • Capacity to lift or carry up to thirty (30) pounds.
