About the Role

Invo Healthcare is seeking a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to join our team in an educational setting. As a Sign Language Interpreter, you will play a vital role in facilitating communication between Deaf and Hard of Hearing students and their hearing peers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality interpretation services in American Sign Language (ASL) and other sign systems as needed.
  • Collaborate with educators, administrators, and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication and support for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with students, families, and community members to promote a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Stay up-to-date with best practices in sign language interpretation and Deaf education to provide exceptional services.
Requirements
  • Certification and Licensing:
    • Must have a 3.3 or higher EIPA Score.
    • State of North Carolina certification or licensure for educational interpreters, if applicable.
  • Educational Background:
    • Bachelor's degree in ASL/English Interpretation, Deaf Education, or a related field preferred.
    • Completion of an interpreter training program.
  • Experience:
    • Previous experience working as a sign language interpreter in an educational setting is highly desirable.
    • Experience with a variety of sign systems and modes of communication used by Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and other sign systems as needed.
    • Strong understanding of Deaf culture and the educational challenges faced by Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with various stakeholders.
  • Personal Attributes:
    • Patience, adaptability, and a strong commitment to supporting student success.
    • Professionalism and adherence to ethical standards of conduct.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods while interpreting.
    • Sufficient dexterity and stamina to perform interpretation tasks throughout the school day.
