POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for providing food service to patients within designated units, including menu choices, tray preparation, delivery, and collection, as well as addressing special requests and needs, along with in-between meal food distribution.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrate a warm and compassionate demeanor towards patients while introducing the food service program, assisting with menu selections, delivering trays, checking in during service rounds, and collecting trays.
  • Gather patient menu preferences prior to each meal service.
  • Adhere to dietary guidelines for special and modified diets to ensure patient food preferences are accommodated within the constraints of dietary orders.
  • Provide alternative menu options as permitted by prescribed diets, considering food allergies, sensitivities, and cultural or religious preferences when patients request additional choices.
  • Assemble trays accurately and promptly according to patient menu selections indicated on tray tickets.
  • May operate cash register or point-of-sale system during meal service as required.
  • Collaborate with nursing staff to ensure accurate diet prescriptions and meet patients' food requirements.
  • Conduct catering rounds after tray delivery to check if patients require anything further.
  • Collect trays from patient rooms shortly after completing service rounds.
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate information for each patient within assigned units.
  • Assist dietitians in monitoring patients who are NPO, on liquid diets, or have specific calorie counts.
  • Report any patient-related issues or concerns to the appropriate personnel promptly, following departmental protocols.
  • Comply with confidentiality standards and patient rights policies as per HIPAA regulations.
  • Contribute to patient satisfaction by delivering high-quality service.
  • Follow all federal, state, and local health and sanitation regulations, as well as departmental sanitation protocols.
  • Ensure a clean and sanitary work environment.
  • Adhere to HACCP guidelines when preparing and distributing food items to guarantee food quality and safety.
  • Complete all required reports on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis in accordance with corporate policies and deadlines.
  • Utilize cleaning chemicals according to manufacturer instructions and MSDS guidelines.
  • Operate equipment safely while performing job functions according to departmental safety standards.
  • Follow facility and departmental safety policies, including incident reporting procedures.
  • Adhere to infection control policies and procedures established by the facility.
  • Comply with the facility's Hazardous Materials and Waste Program protocols.
  • Participate in the Emergency Preparedness Program and engage in disaster drills as necessary.
  • Follow Life Safety Program protocols and participate in fire drills as required.
  • Respond to utility failures in accordance with departmental guidelines.
  • Attend departmental meetings and participate in staff development programs as appropriate.
  • Maintain a positive and helpful attitude towards employees, physicians, patients, and visitors.
  • Read and comply with all policies and procedures of the organization.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.
  • Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent; or up to one month of related experience or training; or a combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Capable of writing routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively communicate information in one-on-one and small group settings with patients, families, and staff.
  • Proficient in basic arithmetic operations and able to compute ratios and percentages.
  • Familiarity with hospital admission, discharge, and transfer (ADT) systems and other patient-care record management systems.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions effectively.
  • Capable of addressing problems involving multiple concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Self-motivated and able to work within established policies and procedures.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS
  • Ability to sit and stand intermittently for 8 to 10 hours daily.
  • Proficient in using standard office equipment, including telephones and computers.
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining near 100% accuracy and meeting strict deadlines.
  • Utilizes manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing continuously.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and utilize hand-eye coordination.
  • Occasionally required to reach above shoulder height and lift or carry up to 40 lbs.
  • May need to walk on uneven surfaces occasionally.
  • Frequently required to communicate verbally and listen.
  • May need to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds occasionally.
