Job Summary

The Emergency Department nurse is expected to provide total care of the patient before, during, and after treatment. This includes providing physical, emotional, spiritual, and cultural support while providing necessary equipment and supplies for all emergency procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Incorporate appropriate assessments and intervention skills in all interactions and delivery of nursing care.
  • Communicate with patients, team members, and management in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Document in a complete and timely manner; appropriately use computer charting/ordering.
  • Apply critical thinking skills and consider alternatives.
  • Organize multitask workload, prioritize tasks, organize/deliver care for multiple patient assignment.
  • Develop and maintain human care relationships.
  • Acknowledge the impact illness/hospitalization has on patients and families; adapt care management for diverse populations and environments.
  • Advocate for needs of clients; provide care in an ethical and legal manner.
  • Recognize the importance of teamwork among care providers.
  • Acknowledge limits of experience and capability and request assistance appropriately.
  • Verbalize scope of practice for self and others, delegate and assign care, coordinate care within multi-disciplinary team.
  • Incorporate teaching in delivery of care with a focus on health promotion.
  • Provide information to patient, assess for barriers to learning, use colleagues as a resource as appropriate, provide counseling about health behaviors.
  • Apply knowledge of the patient populations served within unit; provide age-appropriate care, apply knowledge of expected norms in planning care.
  • Apply new data to improve care.
  • Integrate technical, psychological, social, intellectual, and physical skills.
  • Demonstrate the unit-specific skills required for assigned role and service area.
  • Maintain required competencies based on high-risk/low-volume/problem-prone areas.
  • Promote internal and external customer satisfaction.
  • Build and promote a culture of service excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Work as scheduled and be compliant with Attendance and Tardiness Policy.
  • Daily operations of POCT. This includes but is not limited to: decision making, response to problems, error identification, and corrective action.
  • Perform quality control and maintenance on laboratory analyzers and POCT.
  • Perform laboratory testing and POCT applicable to the FSED.
Requirements
  • Registered Nurse with New Hampshire license or Compact License when applicable.
  • American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS.
  • CPI within 3 months of hire.
  • American Heart Association or American Red Cross ACLS within 6 months of hire.
  • American Heart Association or American Red Cross PALS or ENPC within 6 months of hire.
