Job Summary

The YMCA of Greater Hartford is seeking a qualified Activity Associate - Kid Zone to assist with the care and supervision of children and maintenance of toys and equipment while parents/guardians are using the YMCA's facility.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Assist with daily activities required to care for children, including serving snacks and lunch, bottle feedings, and comforting injured or upset children.
  2. Participate with children in play activities, ensuring premier quality and innovation.
  3. Monitor children's activities and behavior, maintaining a safe and clean environment.
  4. Be responsible for clean-up and maintenance of toys and materials.
  5. Communicate any problems or concerns with program, staff, children, or parents to the appropriate staff member.
  6. Support and contribute to a safe, clean environment for staff and members.
  7. Report any evidence of child abuse to the supervisor immediately.
  8. Maintain confidentiality of information provided by parents, staff, and administration.
  9. Provide friendly, courteous assistance, exceeding members' expectations every day.
Requirements
  1. Experience working with children and an understanding of child development.
  2. Ability to build relationships with staff, volunteers, and parents/guardians.
  3. Ability to create a positive and supportive atmosphere for learning and relationship-building.
  4. CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications within 30 days of hire.
  5. At least 16 years of age.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk, stand, and sit for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 30 pounds in weight.
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
