Crisis Response Advocate for Sexual Violence

The After-Hours Support Specialist for Survivors role is essential in delivering high-quality crisis intervention services, support, information, and referrals to individuals affected by sexual violence in the designated counties. This position requires close collaboration with law enforcement, medical professionals, and social service agencies. Our crisis line operates year-round, and we are looking for a flexible individual who can commit to two shifts per week. During on-call periods, staff can engage in regular activities while remaining accessible for incoming calls. Staff members are expected to refrain from alcohol consumption and stay within a designated travel radius while on duty.

Training Requirements: All staff must complete a comprehensive 40-Hour Sexual Violence Advocacy Training Program prior to engaging with clients or handling confidential information. This training will be conducted at our office and covers various essential topics including advocacy roles, victim responses, and relevant legal frameworks. Additional training will be provided as necessary.
Work Hours: A minimum of 30 hours per week is expected, depending on organizational needs.
Benefits: Mileage reimbursement is provided at the current IRS rate for travel to crisis call locations.
On-Call Schedule: Current schedules include Monday through Thursday from 5 PM to 8 AM the following day, Friday from Noon to 5 PM or Noon to 8 AM the following day, and Saturday/Sunday from 8 AM to 8 AM the following day. This position allows for the selection of on-call days prior to other staff members.
Documentation Responsibilities: During on-call hours, staff are expected to complete client files and necessary paperwork, including case notes and payroll submissions.
Reporting Structure: This position reports directly to the County Supervisor.
Work Environment: The primary workspace will be remote, requiring stable internet access. A work phone will be provided, and staff can utilize office space for time-sensitive documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Answer the crisis line professionally and courteously.
- Assist clients in safety planning and exploring available options.
- Maintain a respectful and non-judgmental demeanor while working with clients.
- Ensure client confidentiality and adhere to mandatory reporting requirements.
- Participate in agency meetings and contribute to strategic planning.
- Maintain accurate records of client interactions and complete necessary documentation.
Client Interaction:
- Provide crisis intervention and direct support to victims of sexual violence.
- Offer information on safety planning, victim rights, and available resources.
- Respond to survivors at various locations, including law enforcement and medical facilities.
- Communicate programming needs and trends to the Supervisor.
- Engage in ongoing education to enhance advocacy skills.
Qualifications:
- Preferred A.A. in psychology, human services, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Successful completion of a background check.
- Demonstrated competency in job responsibilities.
- Knowledge of sexual violence issues at both individual and community levels.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards.
- Strong advocacy and communication skills.
- Proficient in computer applications, particularly word processing and spreadsheets.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle.
