We are seeking a highly skilled HVAC Mechanic to join our team at the University of Maryland Medical System. As an HVAC Mechanic, you will be responsible for performing preventive maintenance on HVAC and other central distribution systems and equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Inspect, repair, modify (as needed), monitor, and operate systems such as hot, chilled, and domestic water, fire protection, steam, condensate return, emergency generators, electric distribution, medical vacuum, oxygen, etc.
- Stand watches in the boiler room as Relief Stationary Engineer.
- Repair pumps on central systems; check pump and motor operation in various areas of the hospital complex.
- Replace motors on AHU, EXH, RA fans, pumps, and fan coil systems.
- Perform skilled electrical maintenance work in repair, installation, and alteration of HVAC equipment, components, timers, motors, and wiring systems as needed; connect motors to control panels.
- Take chemical tests on central chilled water systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance and/or repair on air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.
- Inspect mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Record temperatures, humidity, operating pressure, etc.; make adjustments to control environment and operating conditions.
- Repair pumps, motors, air handlers, heat exchangers, steam traps, valves, fan coils, and other components of central systems.
- Lubricate equipment.
- Clean and rebuild traps and strainers.
- Service and repair exhaust fans.
- Repair steam leaks.
- Replace fan belts and fuses; adjust as necessary.
- Inspect and check dietary equipment.
- Check draft gauges on air handling systems, change filters in air handling equipment.
- Reset circuit breakers.
- Assist Electrician with troubleshooting, repairs, and installation of new service.
- Must be able to read blueprints and interpret accurately according to the blueprints.
- Check lighting in and around hospital buildings, regularly.
- Repair electrical and mechanical patient beds.
- Assist in other areas of the department, including the boiler room; unload salt for the boiler room, as needed.
- Pick up and deliver various supplies, parts, and building materials.
- Order needed materials; obtain parts and supplies in emergencies.
- Clean work and shop areas.
- Shovel snow; spread sand and salt.
- Plunge toilets and drains, as necessary.
- Provide relief coverage for Stationary Engineer, as required and as stated in the Stationary Engineer job description.
- Perform other facilities management duties, for which he/she is qualified, as assigned.
- Perform work in conjunction with construction projects.

- Respond to emergency codes as trained and assigned.
- Responsible for honest behavior in all matters and to the best of the employee's knowledge and understanding, comply with all Federal and State Laws and Regulations.
- Maintain the privacy and security of all confidential and protected health information. Use and disclose only that information which is necessary to perform the function of the job.
- Perform related duties, as assigned.
- Minimum of three years of HVAC experience.
- Must possess a minimum of a Grade 5 or any of the grade above 5 Stationary Engineer's license issued by the State of Maryland or other national licensed disciplines such as Licensed Plumber, Licensed HVAC, or Licensed Electrician or Journeyman.
- If employee does not possess Grade 2 Stationary Engineer's license, must receive grade 5 Stationary Engineer's license within 12 months of employment and continuously to work up to grade 2 stationary engineer's license within a reasonable time frame (subject to management discretion).
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Must possess valid driver's license or have own transportation or must be able to use company provided transportation to travel between all Shore properties for assigned work.
