The Surgical Technologist 2 plays a crucial role in the interoperative phase of patient care, expediting surgical procedures under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. This position is responsible for ensuring a safe and efficient operating room environment, utilizing equipment and instrumentation to facilitate surgical procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Pre-Operative Preparation: Sets up the operating room according to surgical procedure schedules, arranging sterile setups of instrument tables, supplies, and equipment required for specific procedures.
- Surgical Instrumentation: Ensures the proper functioning of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies during surgical procedures.
- Operative Site Preparation: Prepares the operative site by aseptically cleaning and shaving, and cleans the operating room following each case, returning equipment to appropriate storage areas.
- Inventory Management: Maintains inventory of clean and sterilized surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies, adhering to established policies and procedures and regulatory standards.
- Infection Control: Follows infection control policies, Association of perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) recommendation practices, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines, and other regulatory requirements to ensure a safe work environment.
- Education: Graduation from an accredited surgical technology program.
- Experience: Less than 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting.
- Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, and Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).
