Job Summary

Baltimore City Public School System is seeking a part-time Custodial Worker I 3.5 hour position to join our facilities team. As a Custodial Worker, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our school buildings and surrounding grounds.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cleaning and Maintenance: Sweep, vacuum, dust, mop, wax, and buff floors, hallways, stairs, and building interiors. Operate standard cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, buffers, and mops.
  • Sanitation and Hygiene: Clean and maintain sanitary restrooms, wash windows, walls, and ceilings, polish brass, and display equipment and other objects.
  • Waste Management: Gather and transport trash and refuse from assigned areas to appropriate disposal locations.
  • Furniture and Equipment Movement: Move and rearrange furniture and equipment as needed.
  • Lighting and Grounds Maintenance: Remove and install light bulbs, and remove weeds and mow lawns as required.
  • Supply Management: Assist in maintaining supplies and materials.
  • Compliance and Safety: Perform and promote all activities in compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies, and follow federal laws, state laws, school board policies, and professional standards.
Requirements
  • Education: Completion of the eighth grade.
  • Experience: Six months of cleaning or custodial experience.
  • License: Valid Maryland Noncommercial Class C or equivalent driver's license (optional).
  • Skills: Knowledge of cleaning and custodial work methods, materials, and techniques, as well as related basic safety practices and procedures.
  • Ability: Ability to operate and maintain non-complex hand and power cleaning tools and equipment, work with chemicals and cleaning solutions, and read, write, and follow directions.
