Job Summary: We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Bookshelver/Processor to join our team at the Ann Arbor District Library. As a Bookshelver/Processor, you will be responsible for the efficient processing, sorting, and shelving of all Library materials at our assigned location. This is a part-time position, requiring a minimum of 15 hours per week and a maximum of 20 hours per week, including evening and weekend hours.

Key Responsibilities:

* Provides excellent customer service by assisting staff members and patrons in locating materials on the shelves or in the processing area.
* Assists in the training of newly hired Bookshelver/Processor staff.
* Shares responsibility for prioritizing the daily workflow and efficient operation of the processing area while maintaining a prompt and reliable attendance record.
* Prepares and loads carts for outbound delivery and unloads and sorts materials on inbound delivery carts.
* Retrieves and processes materials returned via the inside and outside drop boxes.
* Retrieves and processes available materials requested electronically and by telephone.
* Processes materials returned from other Ann Arbor District Library locations.
* Processes materials requested by and returned from other Michigan eLibrary and Inter-library Loan locations.
* Shelves materials and maintains shelving areas in an accurate, neat, and orderly fashion.
* Shares responsibility for ensuring circulation readiness of materials by assessing and removing or repairing damaged or mislabeled materials.
* Attends AADL staff and Facilities department meetings as scheduled.
* Assists with inventory, shifting collections, and searching for missing, claims returned and in transit items.
* Maintains a prompt and reliable attendance record.

Requirements:

* High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six or more months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Proficiency with Mac and Windows computer systems.
* Ability to file alpha-numerically.
* Strong commitment to excellent public service; helpful, friendly, energetic and adaptable.
* Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
* Interpersonal and judgment skills necessary to work effectively with Library users and staff.
* Ability to assume responsibility and work neatly, efficiently and accurately with minimal supervision.
* Ability to bend, reach and shelve a full range of shelving units.
* Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
* Ability to push/pull fully loaded carts and large items from the tools collection.
* Ability to work standing for up to 8 hours a day and to move efficiently between tasks with continued attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience in a public library and some knowledge of standard public library functions and procedures.
* Experience using a library automated system.

Salary: $15.66/hr
