Key Responsibilities:

  • Generate biweekly payroll files in accordance with HR protocols, ensuring precise calculation and processing of employee wages.
  • Validate timecards and attendance logs to guarantee payroll accuracy for both hourly and salaried personnel.
  • Work collaboratively with external payroll service providers to ensure accurate and timely payroll data processing.
  • Stay updated on tax legislation and verify accurate tax computations to maintain compliance.
  • Oversee tax compliance and act as the primary contact between the organization and payroll service for tax-related inquiries.
  • Assist payroll service providers with documentation and data for tax audits and compliance evaluations.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and prepare reports for internal stakeholders and auditing purposes.
  • Manage property tax payment schedules, ensuring timely payments for all assets.
  • Support internal and external audits related to payroll, ensuring compliance with company policies and legal standards.
  • Address employee inquiries and resolve payroll-related concerns, including discrepancies and deduction issues.
  • Investigate and correct discrepancies in payroll records and payments to ensure accurate employee compensation.
  • Prepare periodic sales and use tax filings for each property, regularly reviewing rates and ensuring timely submissions.
  • Coordinate with the Accounting team and external consultants for Sales Tax and Payroll Tax Compliance Audits.
  • Manage tax rates and implement new tax codes in the system to ensure compliance.
  • Prepare and distribute reports as necessary to support operational functions.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Payroll Processing Expertise: Proficient in managing payroll accurately and efficiently, including wage calculations, tax deductions, and benefits management. Familiarity with payroll software is crucial for handling employee data and generating payroll reports.
  • Tax Compliance Knowledge: In-depth understanding of payroll tax regulations at various levels. Ability to accurately calculate and remit payroll taxes, including income tax withholding and other relevant taxes.
  • Sales Tax Proficiency: Knowledge of sales tax laws applicable to the organization's operations. Ability to accurately calculate, collect, and remit sales tax across different jurisdictions.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail is required to ensure accuracy in calculations, data entry, and reporting.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical capabilities to interpret financial data and identify trends.
  • Compliance Management: Proactively staying informed about changes in payroll tax laws and implementing controls to ensure accurate processing.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Capacity to troubleshoot payroll and tax-related issues effectively.
  • Communication Skills: Effective communication is essential for conveying payroll and tax-related information to various stakeholders.
  • Deadline Management: Ability to manage payroll processing schedules and tax filing deadlines effectively.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
  • Prior experience in payroll accounting or a similar role is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft Excel is essential.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, talk, or hear constantly; frequent use of hands.
  • Manual dexterity for handling paperwork and using office equipment.
