Responsibilities

The Operating Room Registered Nurse is directly accountable to the OR Charge Nurse and the Director of Surgical Services, with indirect accountability to the House Supervisor. The RN is responsible for delivering both direct and indirect patient care in the perioperative environment through the nursing process, which includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation for patients across all age groups, from neonates to the elderly. The RN collaborates with the surgical team, including surgeons and anesthesiologists, and provides guidance to OR Technicians and other staff while upholding professional nursing standards. This role requires effective collaboration with various departments to ensure seamless patient care, efficient patient flow, and optimal unit organization. The RN is also responsible for compliance with regulations, standards, and hospital policies, as well as participation in Performance Improvement initiatives, unit meetings, and educational in-services. Additionally, the RN serves as a resource for other staff members as needed.

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience
  • Current and valid state RN License.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire and ongoing maintenance.
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within 30 days of hire and ongoing maintenance.
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within 30 days of hire and ongoing maintenance.
  • A minimum of one year of prior perioperative experience or equivalent on-the-job training.
  • Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification (AORN) is preferred.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
