Job Summary

The Medical Assistant is a vital member of our patient care team at Middlesex Health. As a Medical Assistant, you will work under the direction of our Practice Manager to provide clinical support and assist our Providers in delivering timely and effective care to our patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcoming patients to the practice and escorting them to the exam room, while introducing new patients to the team.
  • Conducting patient interviews to verify reasons for visits, obtaining medical information, and measuring vital signs, height, and weight.
  • Documenting patient information in our Electronic Health Record (EHR) according to our policies and procedures.
  • Confirming and recording allergies, current medications, refills required, and pharmacy of choice.
  • Ensuring all documentation, results, and reports are available to the Provider for review with the patient.
  • Assisting Providers with patient exams and procedures as directed.
  • Performing phlebotomy, collecting blood and other specimens, labeling, and preparing them for delivery to the lab.
  • Documenting these procedures in the EHR.
  • Preparing treatment rooms, keeping them clean and stocked.
  • Cleaning and sterilizing instruments, disposing of contaminated supplies appropriately.
  • Managing patient messages as delegated by licensed clinical staff/Providers.
  • Preparing prescription refill documents for Provider review and signature.
  • Maintaining effective and organized systems to ensure timely workflow for patients and Providers.
  • Notifying reception staff of any anticipated service delays.
  • Verifying the MH medical record number is listed in the patient's demographic information.
  • Scheduling patient appointments.
  • Preparing patient referrals/authorization for specialist and hospital services.
  • Assisting with review and preparation of Home Healthcare Certifications and other documents as requested.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Medical Assisting Certification
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and medications
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 year experience working with electronic health records
  • 1 year office-based physician practice experience
