About the Role

Bald Birds Brewing Company is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head Brewer to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for overseeing the brewing process and ensuring the highest quality of our craft beers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and Maintain Brewery Equipment: Ensure the smooth operation of our brewhouse and cellar equipment, including the mashtun, kettle, heat exchanger, centrifuge, and other critical systems.
  • Manage Fermentation and Filtration: Oversee the fermentation and filtration processes for all beer batches, ensuring consistency and quality.
  • Lead Beer Brewing Processes: Direct and oversee all beer brewing processes, including recipe formulation, ingredient sourcing, and inventory management.
  • Train and Supervise Team Members: Train and supervise brewhouse and beer cellar operators, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
  • Develop and Maintain SOPs: Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for brewhouse and beer cellar operations, ensuring compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
  • Collaborate with Other Brewers: Work closely with other Head Brewers to develop new recipes and improve existing ones, ensuring our beer offerings remain innovative and competitive.
  • Manage Brewery Inventory: Coordinate with the Production and Operations Directors to manage brewery inventory, ensuring we have the necessary materials and supplies to meet production demands.
  • Source and Maintain Materials: Source and maintain brewery materials and inventory, ensuring we have the highest quality ingredients and equipment.
  • Coordinate with Retail Operations: Work with the Director of Retail Operations to create a beer brewing schedule that meets customer demand and ensures efficient production.
  • Conduct Quality Control: Conduct and/or supervise quality control and assurance procedures, using sensory analysis, PCR testing, and other methods as appropriate to ensure our beers meet the highest standards.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Perform additional tasks as assigned by the management team, including providing leadership and guidance to teammates and contributing to a positive company culture.
Requirements
  • Age Requirement: Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Exceptional Palate: Must have an exceptional palate and sensory and off-flavor training is a plus.
  • Brewing Experience: At least 2-5 years of brewing and packaging experience.
  • Leadership Skills: Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team.
  • Lab Equipment Knowledge: Working knowledge of basic lab equipment and procedures.
  • Beer Knowledge: Knowledge of a wide variety of beer styles and the ability to brew them.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Creative problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to stay calm under pressure.
  • Communication Skills: Organized with exceptional communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Valid Driver's License: Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Physical Demands: Able to stand for extended periods, twist, turn, bend, and lift supplies weighing up to 55lbs, and work in a non-temperature-controlled environment with moderate noise and seasonally fluctuating temperatures.
