Position Summary

The Pharmacy Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient, and effective management of pharmacy operations at PAM Specialty Hospital of Rocky Mount, supported by a dedicated team of pharmacy professionals. The scope of pharmacy services encompasses Antimicrobial Stewardship, Pain Management, sterile product compounding, controlled substance monitoring, and adherence to best practices in medication management. Pharmacy hours are Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with shared on-call responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

The Pharmacy Manager will:

  • Oversee and evaluate all clinical activities as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy, including supervision of refilling machines and management of medical prescription databases.
  • Coordinate and assess all administrative functions delegated by the Director of Pharmacy, including scheduling pharmacy technicians and ensuring compliance with processes.
  • Implement procedures to adhere to regulations regarding medication handling, including reception, storage, inventory, and expense management.
  • Manage daily operations of pharmacy technicians and assess their performance to achieve departmental objectives.
  • In the event of medication shortages, liaise with nursing staff, physicians, and administrative departments to provide alternatives and supervise the preparation of intravenous medications.
  • Maintain pharmacist certifications and manage access controls to medical records databases.
  • Deliver pharmaceutical care to patients as a staff pharmacist.
  • Monitor pharmacy inventory and execute orders to ensure optimal drug supply, identifying alternatives as necessary.
  • Lead the recruitment, onboarding, and performance evaluation processes for pharmacy staff.
  • Optimize internal workflows within the acute pharmacy to ensure streamlined operations.
  • Participate in meetings and contribute insights to hospital committees for cross-functional coordination.
  • Assist in developing strategies to reduce costs, enhance efficiency, and drive growth in the acute pharmacy sector.
  • Take responsibility for Quality Assurance monitoring and prepare monthly reports as directed by the Director of Pharmacy.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or PharmD.
  • A valid Pharmacist license in the state of North Carolina or the ability to obtain one.
  • Preferred prior experience in an inpatient or hospital setting.
  • Management experience is highly desirable.
  • IV certification or experience is preferred.
  • Completion of a pharmacy residency is preferred.
  • Board certification(s) are advantageous.
  • Proficiency in multiple pharmacy information systems and Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with customers and healthcare professionals.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and leadership abilities.
  • A strong customer service orientation and negotiation skills.
