JOB SUMMARY
The Echocardiogram Specialist plays a vital role in delivering high-quality echocardiogram services to adult patients, both in inpatient and outpatient settings. This position operates under the guidance of the Imaging Manager and adheres to the standards set forth by the Cardiopulmonary Services department, ensuring compliance with the licensure regulations established by the State of Maine.
Work Schedule: This role requires flexibility with a commitment to 4-10 shifts per week, distributed between various locations as necessary.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Certification: Must hold a valid RDCS certification.
- Education: An Associate's Degree in a relevant field is mandatory.
- Experience: A minimum of 2 years of clinical experience is preferred.
- Skills: Current Basic Life Support certification is required.
- Knowledge: In-depth understanding of cardiac anatomy and physiology is essential.
- Abilities: Capable of independently performing echocardiograms on adult patients.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Deliver consistent and high-quality testing while maintaining patient care standards.
- Adapt to dynamic work environments and complete necessary tasks as they arise.
- Communicate any unfinished assignments to ensure seamless patient care.
- Verify physician orders prior to commencing any testing procedures.
- Ensure proper patient identification in accordance with hospital protocols.
- Document procedures in alignment with departmental policies.
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines in all clinical interactions.
ECHOCARDIOGRAM PROCEDURES
- Expertise in conducting adult echocardiograms utilizing Doppler and color flow techniques.
- Review patient medical histories and previous diagnostic results.
- Accurately record images with appropriate identification.
- Submit studies to the interpreting Cardiologist for analysis.
- Foster a positive and professional environment for patients.
- Exhibit strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage with patients.
- Maintain inventory of clinical supplies and equipment.
- Report any equipment malfunctions to the Imaging Manager.
- Utilize patient handling equipment in accordance with safety policies.
- Stay informed and engaged by participating in meetings and reviewing relevant communications.
- Demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality, including adherence to break schedules.
- Perform all duties in a safe manner, following established safety protocols.
- Comply with the Code of Conduct and departmental policies.
- Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned that pertain to the role.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENT
This position requires frequent lifting of up to 35 pounds independently and the ability to push or pull up to 100 pounds using assistive devices. The role involves walking, standing, kneeling, and bending regularly, along with the dexterity necessary for essential job functions. Visual acuity must be correctable to 20/20, and normal hearing is required.
EXPOSURE RISK
Employees in this role are classified as Category I, indicating a risk for exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
QUALITY IMPROVEMENT
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the hospital's Quality Improvement Program.
- Collaborate with management to enhance departmental effectiveness through Quality Improvement initiatives.
- Engage in departmental and hospital-wide Quality Improvement activities as directed.

- Adhere to all relevant federal, state, and local regulations.
- Follow the Compliance Program policies and procedures of Down East Community.
- Comply with all Privacy and Security policies and procedures.
- Report any compliance concerns to the department manager or Compliance Officer.
- Address confidentiality concerns with the Privacy Officer.
