Schedule Details/Additional Information:

This position operates from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with an on-call rotation occurring every 7 weeks. Travel between sites may be required, covering distances of 25-60 miles.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure compliance with telecommunications policies to uphold the security and operational continuity of the Advocate Aurora Health VoIP telecommunications network.
  • Install and evaluate new and existing VoIP telephone and voicemail systems at critical locations, adhering to relevant codes, standards, and departmental guidelines. Provide direction and support to VoIP Technicians and Telecom Analyst Associates during campus initiatives.
  • Address service ticket requests for intricate telephony service needs. Manage all necessary purchase orders for required components by collaborating with vendors and external sales representatives. Act as an escalation point for particularly challenging incidents and requests.
  • Engage in and take responsibility for the implementation of agreed-upon designs, documentation, testing, consulting, and modifications of telecom systems (hardware, operating systems, applications) to fulfill specific business functional requirements.
  • Collaborate with Telecom Implementation Engineers to design, plan, deploy, and support extensive VoIP telecom solutions across various facilities, playing a significant role in deployments.
  • Handle port activation, connectivity, testing, and user placements in accordance with available physical infrastructure. Program VoIP telephony systems for complex applications, including advanced call routing.
  • Conduct audits on business continuity processes and oversee all VoIP telecommunications systems deployed across critical sites.
  • Provide small station wiring services and perform wire cross-connecting to the VoIP telephony system. Troubleshoot and diagnose telephone issues, replace defective hardware, and implement necessary software adjustments to resolve problems.
  • Document all repairs and installations. Maintain accurate records for equipment repairs, ensuring proper database management for inventory, directories, and diagrams.
  • Collaborate with other departments regarding new and existing VoIP telephony equipment and services, offering suggestions for service and design enhancements.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service, manage client expectations, and foster positive working relationships. Regularly train and assist VoIP Technicians while maintaining certifications on supported VoIP systems.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required: None Required

Education Required: Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Computer Science or a related field.

Experience Required: Typically requires 5 years of experience in telecommunications services, including diagnosing and troubleshooting service issues, wiring, voicemail programming, basic phone networking configuration, and VoIP technologies.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
  • Advanced telecommunications structured wiring skills, including cable running, punch downs, and cross-connects. Familiarity with structured cabling systems, house cabling, and protection equipment.
  • Required experience in VoIP telephony programming.
  • Knowledge of telephone set features and basic telephony hardware skills for troubleshooting key systems and telephone sets. Advanced telephony programming experience is essential.
  • Understanding of VoIP telecom and basic networking technologies is required.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Capability to provide instruction and guidance to colleagues and vendors.
  • Excellent customer service skills are essential.
  • Participation in on-call rotation is required.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • This is a Critical Services position. Must be able to report to remote locations during adverse weather conditions and when public transportation is unavailable.
  • Must be capable of sitting, standing, walking, lifting, squatting, bending, twisting, kneeling, climbing, and reaching above shoulder height throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. at waist height over a reasonable distance.
  • Must be able to push/pull with 10 lbs. of force.
  • Must possess functional vision, speech, and hearing abilities.
  • Must be able to use hands with fine manipulation when operating a computer keyboard.
  • May be exposed to fumes, odors, dust, and dirt.
