Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Wastewater Collection System Engineer to lead our Wastewater Collection System Consent Decree Support team. The successful candidate will be responsible for reporting on collection system Consent Decree objectives, coordinating with Regulatory Compliance, and providing technical expertise to support collection system analysis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Wastewater Collection System Consent Decree Support team
  • Report on collection system Consent Decree objectives
  • Coordinate with Regulatory Compliance
  • Provide technical expertise to support collection system analysis
  • Leverage CCTV data for collection system analysis
  • Establish goals, evaluate performance, and manage budget
  • Respond to inquiries by departments, consultants, agencies, and the public
  • Supervise and monitor quality control efforts of existing staff and train/develop new personnel
  • Attend meetings and conferences
  • Coordinate special projects
Working Conditions

The position may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, as with occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of a video display terminal. There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less-than-optimal temperature and air conditions.

Requirements
  • Requires graduation from an approved curriculum in engineering that is approved by the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers with a satisfactory standing
  • OR requires graduation from an engineering or related science curriculum at a recognized institution of higher education, other than a curriculum approved by the Board, and passage of the eight-hour fundamentals of engineering examination prescribed by the Board
  • Eight years of active practice in engineering work after graduation from an approved curriculum in engineering, with four of the years as a licensed Professional Engineer, are required
  • A Master's degree in Engineering may be substituted for up to two years of the above experience requirement
  • Requires registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas
  • Engineers from out-of-state must be hired in a position directly under the supervision of a Professional Engineer licensed by the State of Texas; obtain their license as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas within six months from date of hire for continued employment with the City of Houston
  • Valid Texas Driver License and compliance with the City of Houston policy on driving
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6
  • Preference will be given to candidates that possess a Class A Wastewater Operator License issued by Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ)
