Nurse Residency Program Specialist

The Nurse Residency Specialist is a critical role within SSM Health, responsible for creating a supportive learning environment for new graduate nurses to develop their skills and progress through novice to proficient RN competency.
This position serves as a coach and mentor to assigned nurse residents and international nurses, implementing system-level guidelines and programming to socialize and enculturate them into SSM Health and promote participant retention.
Key Responsibilities:- Serves as an instructor and facilitator of nursing residency classes and experiences at the system and ministry levels.
- Participates as an expert clinician in nurse residency program development and enhancement.
- Utilizes integrative learning approaches to assist with clinical reasoning and skill development of nurse residents, including case studies and simulation.
- Collaborates with preceptors and nurse leaders to ensure progressive assessment and monitoring of nurse residents and international nurses.
- Provides coaching and mentorship to preceptors and assigned nurse residents that is consistent with a culture of mutual respect and trust.
- Works closely with preceptors to assure smooth transition from student into the professional practice role.
- Collaborates with clinical educators and department leaders in selection and ongoing evaluation of preceptors.
- Works a schedule conducive to nurse resident schedules, including afternoons, evenings, nights, and weekends.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing.
- Three years' registered nurse experience.
- Constant standing and walking.
- Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
- Frequent reaching, gripping, and keyboard use/data entry.
- Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
- Frequent use of hearing and speech to share or receive information through oral communication.
- Occasional use of smell to detect/recognize odors.
- Occasional use of vision to judge distances and spatial relationships.
- Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, and gripping and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
- Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
- Occasional lifting/moving of patients.
