We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Financial Aid Advisor to join our team at Diné College. As a key member of our Student Affairs department, you will play a critical role in supporting students and families in navigating the financial aid process.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct financial aid appointments and counseling sessions with students and parents to discuss available financial aid programs and resources.
- Assist students with financial aid applications, financial aid literacy, and debt management plans to ensure they are prepared to cover the cost of attending college.
- Collaborate with University departments to support student debt intervention initiatives and ensure students are well-informed on financial literacy and reducing debt.
- Contribute to the awarding process of students receiving Pell Grants and Scholarships, including verifying and reviewing student files for packaging.
- Develop and implement financial literacy programs, including creating virtual financial management modules and resources to help students effectively manage money and design financial plans.
- Work with internal departments and outside organizations to address financial literacy and debt reduction initiatives.
- Assist in the development of financial aid program procedures, counseling students, and conducting financial aid workshops and training sessions to ensure compliance with federal aid regulations and policies.
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Education, or Social Science, or a related field.
- At least two years of work experience in Student Financial Aid or a related field in higher education.
- Knowledge of and ability to present financial aid literacy and student advocacy.
- Strong project management and organizational skills, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to analyze and interpret data, prioritize information, and communicate clearly with students, parents, and staff.
- Master's degree in Business Administration, Education, Social Science, or a related field.
- Experience in presentations, webinars, or digital resources in the area of financial literacy.
- Experience in processing student financial aid through a relational database system.
- Experience with powerFAIDS software or equivalent software program.
This is a full-time position that requires working in an office environment, with occasional travel to other campuses and sites. The successful candidate will be able to work effectively in a high-pressure office setting during peak business times of the year.
A valid State Driver's License is required, and the ability to speak Navajo is a plus.
