Job Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure that aircraft and weather conditions are suitable for transporting medical personnel and patients to designated hospitals within an assigned operational area. You will be accountable for adhering to Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR), the Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM), and the General Operations Manual (GOM), along with a thorough understanding of Air Methods' policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Operating Air Methods aircraft safely and legally.
- Conducting pre-flight inspections to verify the aircraft's airworthiness, documented in the Daily Flight Log.
- Holding final authority over aircraft operations and ensuring the safety of passengers, cargo, and equipment.
- Maintaining familiarity with all aircraft and medical systems of backup aircraft used in the operational area.
- Completing necessary documentation accurately.
- Executing detailed flight planning with minimal notice.
- Participating in Air Methods meetings, activities, projects, and community outreach initiatives.
- Performing additional duties as assigned.
Additional Requirements:
Regular attendance is a fundamental aspect of this position, in accordance with applicable laws and Air Methods policies.
Qualifications:
To succeed in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:
- Associates degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, along with two to five years of relevant experience or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Bachelor's degree is preferred.
Operational and Safety Requirements:
As a member of the Flight Crew, candidates must maintain a weight not exceeding 250 pounds and be under seventy (70) years of age.
Skills:
Successful candidates will demonstrate:
- Strong interpersonal skills with colleagues, EMS representatives, hospitals, and the public.
- Recent flight experience within the required category.
Visual Flight Rules (VFR) Program Requirements:
Applicants must meet the following flight hour requirements:
- 2000 total flight hours with a minimum of 1500 flight hours in category.
- 1000 hours as Pilot in Command (PIC) in category.
- 500 hours of rotor wing turbine experience.
- 200 hours of cross-country flight time, including at least 50 hours at night.
- 100 hours of unaided night as PIC (50 hours of unaided can be substituted by 100 hours of NVG time).
- 50 hours total actual or hood instrument time in flight and in category.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
Required certifications include:
- Instrument rating for the category and class of aircraft.
- Fixed wing multiengine rating for twin-engine aircraft.
- Commercial single-engine land rating for single-engine aircraft.
- First or Second Class FAA Medical certificate.
