Fisheries Observer Career

We are seeking highly motivated individuals to join our team of Marine Biologists. As a Fishery Observer, you will have the opportunity to work on commercial fishing vessels operating in ports throughout New England and the Mid-Atlantic.

The primary goals of our fishery observation programs are to provide quantitative biological, vessel, and gear-selectivity information for the New England and Mid-Atlantic fishery. You will collect data on fish catch and discard, as well as incidental takes such as marine mammals, seabirds, and marine turtles.

Our comprehensive training program will equip you with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in this challenging and rewarding role. You will learn about sampling protocols, gear, fisheries, fish identification, and safety procedures.

We offer a competitive salary package, including hourly pay, travel reimbursement, and per diem compensation. Our benefits package includes health and dental insurance, vacation, sick and holiday benefits. We also offer opportunities for advancement and professional development.

To be eligible for this position, you must possess a bachelor's degree in Marine Biology or Biology from an accredited college or university, with 30 credits of biology coursework and 6 credits of marine science. At least one undergraduate course in math or statistics is also required. You must be physically able to perform biologist duties, as determined by a licensed physician's certification.
