About the Role
The Amazon Regulatory Intelligence Safety and Risk (RISC) team is dedicated to safeguarding customers from products that may be unsafe, illegal, or in violation of Amazon's policies. Our mission is to enable our Selling Partners to provide a wide array of safe and compliant products. We accomplish this through a science-driven approach, developing intuitive tools to facilitate compliance, and innovating to enhance operational efficiency.
Position Overview
The RISC Science team is in search of a skilled Applied Scientist who will utilize AI and machine learning techniques, including deep learning, self-learning algorithms, and ensemble methods, to enhance operational efficiency globally and support our Selling Partners in offering compliant products. The team tackles various machine learning challenges, such as:
- Multi-modal classification with data sparsity issues to boost business efficiency.
- Implicit risk detection to proactively address compliance challenges.
- Document comprehension using large language models (LLMs) to enrich risk signals.
- Information retrieval through optical character recognition (OCR) technologies.
- Generative AI to optimize processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and assess cutting-edge deep learning algorithms for multi-modal classification and LLMs.
- Develop new algorithms and scientific methodologies to enhance operational cost-effectiveness.
- Drive productivity improvements across scientific teams.
- Collaborate with product and technology partners to validate hypotheses and maximize business impact.
- Contribute to high-quality scientific publications for peer-reviewed conferences.
- Lead cross-organizational initiatives to establish foundational scientific capabilities applicable to various use cases.
A Day in the Life
- Engage with stakeholders to understand challenges and project timelines.
- Propose scientific solutions and brainstorm ideas with the team.
- Write code and conduct experiments using reusable scientific libraries.
- Review data labels and audit results with team members.
- Share scientific findings with partners and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with internal and external teams to deploy models at scale.
- Draft scientific papers for peer review and evaluate submissions from colleagues.
- Participate in team retrospectives for continuous improvement.
- Foster research collaborations and engage with scientists across the organization.
About the Team
We are a dedicated group of scientists and engineers focused on developing AI and machine learning solutions to enhance business efficiency and simplify compliance for our Selling Partners.
Basic Qualifications
- PhD or Master's degree with a minimum of 5 years of applied research experience.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or C++.
- Experience with neural deep learning and self-learning methodologies.
- Familiarity with modality-agnostic representation and ML system design.
- Experience conducting research in a corporate environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with federated learning.
