Job Description

An Ultrasound Technologist performs diagnostic imaging procedures using ultrasound equipment to produce high-quality images of internal organs, soft tissues, and blood flow. These images assist physicians in diagnosing and treating various medical conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform general ultrasound examinations, including abdominal, pelvic, obstetric, vascular, and small parts imaging, as ordered by the physician.
  • Prepare patients for ultrasound procedures by explaining the process, answering questions, and positioning them correctly for optimal imaging.
  • Operate ultrasound equipment to capture diagnostic-quality images, adjusting settings as necessary based on the patient's condition and the area of study.
  • Analyze images for quality and accuracy, documenting findings and preparing preliminary technical reports for physician review.
  • Recognize and identify normal and abnormal findings, ensuring proper documentation of relevant anatomy and pathology.
  • Maintain and sanitize ultrasound equipment and transducers following infection control protocols.
  • Collaborate with radiologists and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive diagnostic information.
  • Ensure patient safety by adhering to established procedures, including monitoring for adverse reactions and maintaining a safe environment.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and comply with all legal, ethical, and organizational standards.
  • Stay updated on advancements in ultrasound technology and imaging techniques through continuing education.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or a related field.
  • Certification:
    • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) certification from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or equivalent.
    • Specialties in Abdomen (AB), Obstetrics/Gynecology (OB/GYN), or Vascular Technology (RVT) are highly preferred.
  • Experience: Prior experience as an Ultrasound Technologist is preferred; new graduates from accredited programs may be considered.
