Weighmaster

We are seeking a highly skilled Weighmaster to join our team at the Baltimore County Department of Public Works. As a Weighmaster, you will be responsible for collecting money, verifying amounts received, and maintaining records for reconciliation at our solid waste facilities.

• Collects money and verifies amounts received
• Maintains records for reconciliation
• Performs scale operations and administrative tasks
• Interacts with customers on a daily basis
• Verifies county residency and compliance with regulations
• Receives cash, checks, and credit cards for payment of taxes, fees, and fines
• Issues receipts and cash or checks upon presentation of required authorizations
• Records all transactions on a daily basis
• Counts money and compares amounts to receipts issued
• Prepares money for deposit or transfer
• Operates adding machines and computers using scale house software

• Graduation from a recognized high school
• Two years' experience in cashiering or accounting with direct responsibility for handling money
• Knowledge of cash accounting methods, practices, and procedures
• Knowledge of office procedures
• Skills in the use of adding machines and computers
• Ability to perform mathematical computations
• Ability to maintain complete and accurate records
• Ability to understand and follow instructions
• Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

The work of this classification entails frequent operation of office equipment requiring the use of coordinative and manipulative skills. Some positions may involve frequent standing. The work requires exposure to potentially hazardous materials and conditions; including adverse weather conditions.

Solid Waste facilities operate Monday - Saturday. Employees will be assigned schedules of 40-hour work weeks within the working hours of one or multiple sites.
