Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

We are seeking a highly skilled Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to join our team at the Cook Counseling Center in Blacksburg, VA. As a member of our multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating students referred for psychiatric evaluation.
About the Role- You will work closely with Board Certified Psychiatrists to provide comprehensive care to students.

Required Qualifications- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree with a specialization in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing or Family Nurse Practitioner.
- Current unrestricted Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license with Psychiatric Mental Health certification (PMHNP-BC) or Family Nurse Practitioner (by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners or American Nurses Credentialing Center) in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Must possess prescriptive authority in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Strong Knowledge of psychiatric illness and differential diagnosis with working knowledge of the DSM-5 TR.
- Strong assessment, diagnostic, and therapeutic skills within evidence-based practice.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Commitment to providing patient-centered care with empathy, integrity, and cultural competency.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team with acceptance, respect, and trust.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records, electronic prescribing, and relevant technology systems.
- Experience or interest in working with students from under-represented populations.
- Previous training and/or experience in a college mental health setting.
- Experience with managing crisis situations, completing risk assessments, and disposition planning to address safety risks.
- Demonstrated expertise in a minimum of one specific treatment relevant to collegiate mental health.
- A self-motivated, self-directed commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice.
- The energy to flexibly manage the professional demands of the role while maintaining positive and healthy relationships.
