The Department of Psychiatry at The University of Iowa is seeking a highly skilled Social Work Specialist I to provide expert practice skills in adult psychiatry assessment, adult and family psychotherapy, group therapy, and consultations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct mental health assessments of adult patients in an outpatient clinic and crisis stabilization unit.
  • Formulate diagnostic opinions and treatment plans using the DSM 5 criteria.
  • Provide individual, family, and group psychotherapy services to patients with a range of behavioral health complaints and concerns.
  • Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary clinic treatment team to implement patient care recommendations.
  • Stay current with social work and healthcare knowledge base and pursue further enhancements of job-related knowledge.
Requirements:
  • A Master's degree in Social Work.
  • Iowa licensure as an Independent Social Worker (LISW) by time of hire.
  • Minimum 3-5 years Social Work experience in adult outpatient behavioral health care settings and providing psychotherapy services.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate as part of multi-disciplinary care teams and effect change and resolve recalcitrant problems.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Extensive experience providing evidence-based treatment for adults and families.
  • Experience providing planned and emergent assessments of patients in adult inpatient and outpatient clinic settings.
  • Experience formulating diagnostic opinions and treatment plans using the DSM 5 criteria.
  • Expertise in Iowa abuse/neglect law.
