Offshore Safety Specialist

Main Purpose
As a key member of the Gulf Island Fabrication team, the Offshore Safety Specialist will be responsible for ensuring that all personnel on the jobsite are following established safety policies and procedures. This includes conducting daily safety assessments, participating in safety meetings, and coaching employees on their active participation and involvement in these discussions.
Essential Functions
- Conduct daily safety assessments to ensure that personnel are working in a safe manner within established safety policies and procedures.
- Participate in daily safety meetings and JSEA discussions, and coach employees on their active participation and involvement in these discussions.
- Conduct incident learnings as needed and prepare reports accordingly.
- Prepare and submit time tickets, work orders, mobe/demobe sheets, daily safety reports, incident first reports of injury, JSEA, and the permit to work process.
- Perform other related job duties as directed.
Requirements
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
- Good eye/hand coordination is required.
- Standing, walking, turning, twisting, bending, and stooping are essential job functions.
- Pushing and pulling are essential job functions.
- Reaching, forward and reaching overhead are essential job functions.
- Climbing is an essential job function.
- Balancing, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing, and seeing are normal physical duties/requirements.
- Lifting up to 50 pounds is required.
Job Requirements
- Must have a working knowledge of the fabrication of Oil and Gas related projects and Heavy Equipment usage in same.
- Microsoft suite proficiency is required.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in offshore safety in the oil and gas construction/fabrication industry is required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual (Spanish and English) is a plus.
- Ability to work an on-call schedule of weekends and nights if needed.
- Own transportation to come out to treat an injury is required.
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field is preferred.
- High school diploma or GED is required.
