Lifeguard (After School Hours and/or Summer) Job Description

Job Summary:

The Roosevelt City Fire Department is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Lifeguard to join our team. As a Lifeguard, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of patrons in our aquatic center swimming pools. This is an entry-level position that requires a strong commitment to customer service and a passion for water safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform lifesaving and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation techniques whenever needed
  • Participate in physical and rescue skills training
  • Provide exceptional customer service to patrons
  • Enforce pool rules consistently and promptly
  • Discipline or eject patrons for rule infractions
  • Perform general maintenance tasks, including cleaning as assigned
  • Respond to customer concerns and take appropriate action
  • Attend all staff meetings and training sessions

Requirements:

  • Must be 15 years of age
  • No experience necessary
  • Ability to demonstrate advanced swimming skills
  • Ability to pass pre-course swimming skills test prior to attending Lifeguard certification course
  • Ability to pass performance proficiency tests based on American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and AED certification requirements

Work Environment:

Employees in this position are exposed daily to seasonal weather extremes. Tasks require a variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, pulling, pushing and lifting. Talking, hearing and seeing are essential to the performance of daily tasks.
