About the Institution:

Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) is a prominent multi-campus institution situated in scenic Upstate New York. The college offers over 80 degree and certificate programs across three main schools: Business and Liberal Arts, Health Sciences, and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). As one of the 30 community colleges within the State University of New York (SUNY) system, HVCC serves nearly 9,000 students annually and is recognized for its leadership in career preparation, workforce training, and service to a diverse student body.

Position Overview:

The Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) is seeking experienced and dynamic individuals to fill the role of Academic Instructor. This position is crucial in continuing the legacy of successful service to the community.

Qualifications for Employment:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, English, Reading, or a related field
  • Relevant coursework in Mathematics
  • Two years of teaching experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a related field
  • Instructional experience with an ethnically diverse population
  • Strong ability to engage with individuals in an encouraging manner
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct classes focusing on academic subjects, particularly High School Equivalency and related Mathematics courses
  • Assist students in securing suitable employment or further academic opportunities
  • Prepare necessary reports and documentation
  • Attend required meetings and participate in assessment sessions
  • Collaborate with the Associate Coordinator of Instructional Services regarding student progress
  • Work with EOC staff and external agencies to meet program needs
  • Support the personal and vocational development of students
  • Provide informal crisis intervention as needed
  • Develop and revise curriculum for the program
  • Assist in orientation for new students
  • Implement attendance policies as required
  • Contribute to special projects as necessary
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
