Overview of the Role
Meadowhawk Biolabs, Inc. is in search of a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to take on the role of a Paid Laboratory Intern within our Operations Department. This opportunity is designed for those looking to acquire foundational experience in laboratory and vivarium operations while being immersed in the dynamic Life Sciences sector. The ideal candidate is inquisitive, industrious, and possesses a strong desire to learn in a collaborative and fast-paced environment. We are open to part-time candidates (10 to 20 hours) during the academic semesters, with the possibility of increasing hours to forty per week during breaks and summer sessions. Flexibility in scheduling is available within reasonable limits.
Key Responsibilities:
Under close supervision and adherence to established protocols, the intern will engage in a variety of laboratory operational tasks, including but not limited to:
- Receiving, managing, and disposing of study materials and samples.
- Handling the receipt, storage, distribution, and inventory of consumables.
- Collecting and storing biological and chemical waste.
- Cleaning and treating labware as necessary.
- Preparing basic chemical solutions.
- Maintaining organization within laboratory and vivarium areas.
- Performing other clearly defined tasks as assigned.
High school diploma or equivalent, with a focus on pursuing a post-secondary degree in the sciences. Previous laboratory experience is not required. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered as a substitute for the outlined criteria.
Required Skills:
- Strong organizational and attention to detail skills.
- Ability to adapt quickly and effectively to changing assignments and priorities.
- Capability to multitask and manage time independently to enhance productivity.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
The ideal candidate will also exhibit qualities such as collaboration, open-mindedness, self-awareness, flexibility, objectivity in evaluations, persistence, and optimism when faced with challenges. A willingness to make decisions and take ownership of assigned responsibilities is essential.
