Job Title: Loss Control Inspector Trainee

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Loss Control Inspector Trainee to join our team at the Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company.

About the Role

The Loss Control Inspector Trainee will be responsible for conducting inspections of commercial equipment, including boilers and pressure vessels, to identify potential risks and hazards. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct inspections of commercial equipment to identify potential risks and hazards
  • Develop and implement risk management strategies to mitigate potential losses
  • Collaborate with clients and customers to provide high-quality services and solutions
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay up-to-date on industry best practices
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A high school diploma and technical working knowledge of commercial equipment
  • Experience operating, maintaining, or inspecting boilers, pressure vessels, and machinery
  • Basic algebra skills and basic computer knowledge
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently
  • Meet the required experience and qualifications to obtain the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors commission
Preferred Qualifications

National Board of Boiler & Pressure Vessel Inspectors Commission, Technical College Graduate, or Engineering degree (BSME, BSEE, or BSChE)

Physical Requirements

This position requires a person to routinely move about at a site facility. As such, candidates for this position must be able to perform the below physical requirements:

  • Ability to crawl through 11" X 15" openings into confined spaces
  • Ability to climb vertical ladders and several stories of stairs
  • Ability to climb and function at heights of at least 30 feet, and up to eight (8) to ten (10) stories
  • Ability to perform bending, stretching, and twisting motions
  • Ability to withstand temperature variations
  • Ability to walk 3-5 miles
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
  • Ability to lift own body weight while hanging or entering a confined space with associated safety equipment
  • Ability to lift equipment up to 50 lbs
  • Visual acuity of 20/20 (natural or corrected) and identify colors
  • Ability to hear (corrected) the sounds of equipment operation
