Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Specialist IV to join our team at the Texas Department of Public Safety. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing complex building maintenance and construction work, including repair, renovation, and alteration of various trades in our headquarters complex and remote facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and perform semi-skilled work to maintain or repair building and/or stationary equipment, including plumbing, masonry, carpentry, painting, and electrical work.
  • Requisition materials and equipment at various locations for maintenance repairs and/or construction projects.
  • Assist with moving furniture, boxes, and other items using pallet jacks, dollies, and other equipment.
  • Install and repair extensive sprinkler systems.
  • Read moderately complex drawings, sketches, and blueprints to determine details of assigned tasks and plan/schedule task sequences and time allotments.
  • Inspect existing structures to determine and follow best methods and sequences to accomplish work orders or daily schedules of work on assigned tasks.
  • Perform as crew leader for multiple-employee tasks.
  • Complete appropriate documents, work orders, and reports to document work completed and materials used.
  • May work hours beyond and other than normal work hours, including holidays and weekends, as needed.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years' experience performing building trades work on commercial or residential projects and attainment of competent skills in at least one skilled trade area.
  • Technical school training in a skilled construction trade may substitute for required work experience.
  • Valid driver's license from state of residence.
  • Pesticide applicator license may be required.

The employee will also be required to speak, hear, and exercise visual acuity. The employee will be required to transfer weights of up to 100 pounds and drive moderate frequency.
