The Corrections Lieutenant is a critical role within the Commonwealth of Virginia's correctional system, responsible for overseeing the daily activities of Security Supervisors, Corrections Officers, and Inmates in an institutional setting.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise and monitor staff on assigned shifts to ensure a safe, secure, and productive environment.
- Lead and counsel staff to promote a positive and productive work environment.
- Coordinate work schedules and assign duty rosters for assigned shifts.
- Contribute to the administration of the performance management system for staff.
- Conduct ongoing inspections to maintain security, sanitation, and good order within the institution.
- Interact with management, staff, visitors, inmates, and the public to maintain orderly and secure operations.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Driver's License.
- DCJS Certification.
- Experience in corrections or law enforcement.
- Experience supervising corrections staff.
- Working experience planning, scheduling, and/or organizing work to include timekeeping and duty roster management.
- Experience in reviewing and evaluating records and reports and applying post orders.
- Demonstrated knowledge of practices and procedures governing security and/or administration.
- Ability to receive, understand, follow, and give oral and written instructions.
- Working knowledge in the use of firearms, radio equipment, physical control devices, electric and electronic controls.
- Advance knowledge in Criminal Justice or related field.
- LEAD Graduate or equivalent applicable experience and/or training.
- Working experience with evidence-based practices.
- Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office programs to include Outlook.
The Corrections Lieutenant will be required to undergo a background investigation and may be subject to a pre-employment drug screen. The position requires possession of a valid Driver's License and DCJS Certification.
