Job Summary and Qualifications
The Resource Nurse plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care by providing feedback, guidance, and mentorship to new graduate nurses and those transitioning to new specialties. This position supports multiple units.

The Resource Nurse is responsible for offering education and guidance on the hospital's nursing practices, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with all accrediting and regulatory agency requirements.

Minimum Education, Experience, Training, Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Job-Related Characteristics:

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.

Experience: Minimum of 2 years as a Registered Nurse.

Preferred:
Master’s Degree in Nursing, at least 1 year in a leadership role, and 1 year as a preceptor.

Licenses, Certificates, or Registrations Required:

Required:
  • Active registered professional nurse license in the state(s) of practice or an active compact license.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Preceptor Training within 90 days of hire.
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training within 90 days of hire.
  • Business Emergency Response Training (BERT) within 90 days of hire.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within 12 months of hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within 12 months of hire.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Participates in the execution of nursing care plans by delivering direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
  • Collects and documents initial and ongoing patient information throughout the care cycle, including admissions data, vital signs, and other relevant metrics.
  • Records observations, interactions, and patient responses, reporting significant changes to the RN/Team Leader.
  • Assists with patient mobility and daily living activities, ensuring safety and comfort.
  • Provides non-medicated support care and assists with basic procedures as competency is verified.
  • Collects specimens for diagnostic tests, ensuring proper labeling and timely transfer.
  • Facilitates patient preparation for procedures and assists with discharges.
  • Maintains a clean and safe environment for patients, adhering to safety protocols.
  • Supports patient education by translating complex medical terminology into understandable language.
