Job Summary:The Firefighter/Paramedic Recruit is an entry-level position that requires a strong foundation in firefighting and emergency medical services. As a Firefighter/Paramedic Recruit, you will attend fire department orientation and mentorship processes to learn and demonstrate proficiency in firefighter and paramedic skills, rescue techniques, and emergency medical procedures.
Responsibilities:- Respond to alarms involving fires, accidents, gas leaks, and other emergencies.
- Perform firefighting and rescue tasks, including operating fire streams, ventilating and entering burning structures, and treating and transporting patients.
- Attend training classes and receive instruction in firefighting and rescue techniques, emergency medical procedures, and other related topics.
- Participate in drills and other Department training activities to maintain physical fitness and develop skills.
- Support and assist other Firefighter/Paramedics as directed on medical calls.
- Perform fire prevention and pre-fire planning inspections in commercial, industrial, and municipal facilities.
- Must be at least 18 years of age and have an education equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
- Must have graduated from a 240-hour Firefighter I Academy accredited by California State Fire Marshal/State Fire Training or equivalent.
- Must have completed appropriate education and training to obtain licensure as a California State Certified EMT/Paramedic and meet requirements of the County of San Diego EMS Office.
- Must possess a valid Driver License with satisfactory driving record and obtain a Valid CA Drivers License by time of appointment.
- Must have a passing CALJAC FCTC written score within 12 months of application deadline and a passing CALJAC CPAT time within 6 months of the application deadline.
- Must have a current State Certified EMT/Paramedic license and a current EMT-P accreditation with the County of San Diego EMS office.
- Must have a CPR Certification with a minimum rating of BLS-C and a current ACLS Card.
