Position Overview:
The Critical Care Nurse is responsible for delivering comprehensive nursing care to patients in the Intensive Care Unit. This role involves engaging in patient and family education while providing leadership by collaborating effectively with ancillary nursing staff and other healthcare team members to uphold the standards of professional nursing practice within the clinical environment.
The Critical Care Nurse acknowledges the individuality of each patient, ensuring their right to receive high-quality nursing care. This includes establishing mutual goals between the nurse and the patient, while safeguarding patient rights and privacy.
Accountability:
The nurse is accountable for adhering to ethical and professional standards as outlined in the ANA Code for Nurses, the ANA Nursing's Social Policy Statement, and relevant state regulations. Compliance with standards set by regulatory bodies, including but not limited to the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) and the Michigan Occupational Health and Safety Administration (MIOSHA), is essential. These responsibilities necessitate a high level of competence in nursing practice and the recognition of individual actions and decisions.
Qualifications:
Mandatory:
- Completion of an accredited registered nursing program.
- Possession of a valid Michigan Registered Nurse license.
- Current BLS Certification.
- Must obtain ALS certification within three months of employment.
- Preferred experience of six months in an Intensive or Coronary Care Unit within the last two years, or meeting internal criteria.
- Completion of a basic dysrhythmia course within one year of employment.
Desirable:
- At least one year of nursing experience in a hospital setting.
