Role Overview

Coupang's Search and Discovery Product Engineering (SDPE) ML group is a cutting-edge team that leverages machine learning to drive innovation and excellence in search and discovery experiences. As a Senior Staff Machine Learning Engineer, you will be part of this team, working on developing and deploying advanced machine learning models to improve search and discovery capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Root cause major defects in Coupang searchers' experience and propose solutions leveraging state-of-the-art technologies, including ML, DL, and LLM.
  • Drive end-to-end ML methods with high degrees of ambiguity, scale, and complexity.
  • Build machine learning models, perform proof-of-concept, experiment, optimize, and deploy models into production.
  • Establish scalable, efficient, automated processes for data analysis, machine learning model development, model validation, and serving.
  • Run A/B experiments, gather data, and perform statistical analysis to develop insights that drive product requirements.
  • Present results and explain methods to leadership.
  • Mentor junior engineers on the team and partner teams, helping to uplevel ML talent across the company.
Requirements
  • 8+ years of experience in engineering teams building large-scale ML-driven user-facing products.
  • Hands-on experience training and applying models at scale using deep learning frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Experience with state-of-the-art ML modeling techniques and approaches, including transformers, self-supervised pre-training, generative modeling, and LLMs.
  • Proficient coding skills in Java, C++, or Python.
  • Masters or PhD in Computer Science or related fields.

  • Ability to think outside-the-box and challenge conventional wisdoms.
  • Extensive knowledge in deep learning and computer vision techniques.
  • A passion to explore, improve, automate, and optimize distributed systems and tools.
