Early Head Start Substitute Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Early Head Start Substitute to join our team at HumanKind. As a Substitute, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality early education and child development services to our young children and their families.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide responsive care and effective teaching methods to promote healthy development in children of all abilities, cultures, and languages.
  • Ensure a safe and nurturing classroom environment that fosters trust, emotional security, and rich language development.
  • Implement lesson plans and job responsibilities in the absence of the Teacher.
  • Collaborate with the Center Manager to ensure classrooms meet all regulation requirements, including meal preparation, diapering, and sanitizing toys and surfaces.
  • Substitutes will be assigned to a primary center in Lynchburg or Bedford, with mileage reimbursement provided for coverage at our other EHS location.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Six months' experience in an early childhood or caregiver setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of early childhood care and education, specifically infant and toddler development, and ability to work with mixed-age groups.
  • Ability to learn and adhere to Virginia licensing/subsidy standards and Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS), and Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
  • Ability to establish professional relationships and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to lift and carry children, bend, sit on the floor, and be physically active inside and outside in all weather.
