About the Role:

DEKA Research and Development is seeking a skilled mechanical design engineer to contribute to the creation of groundbreaking medical devices. This role involves collaborating with a team to advance products through various stages, including idea generation, prototyping, component design, assembly development, testing, and documentation. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a high degree of independence in managing multiple sub-assembly designs concurrently, requiring minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop innovative solutions to engineering challenges while considering factors such as risk, reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, weight, and cost.
  • Transform concepts into tangible products utilizing 3D CAD Solid Modeling, defining specifications, selecting materials and processes, engaging with suppliers and manufacturers, and documenting the development journey.
  • Identify and resolve design failure modes, conducting root cause analysis and implementing effective solutions.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including electrical, software, industrial design, and controls engineers.
  • Assess designs through prototype testing and verification of requirements.
  • Conduct technical reviews and provide approval for all mechanical components and assembly designs, analyses, and testing.
  • Exemplify best practices in mechanical engineering and mentor less experienced engineers.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in designing electromechanical products.
  • Proven experience in designing components using various manufacturing techniques, such as machining, welding, injection molding, forming, forging, and casting.
  • Proficient in Solidworks or similar CAD software.
  • Experience with surfacing is advantageous.
  • Ability to produce engineering drawings and a solid understanding of GD&T principles.
  • Experience with finite element analysis and tolerance analysis is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in taking projects from design to production, with the ability to articulate personal contributions to each product.
  • Familiarity with designing medical equipment is a plus.
  • Experience with dynamic systems involving electro-mechanical devices is beneficial.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
