Unit Information
This position operates under a strict 75-mile radius rule. The nurse will be assigned to the 2C Observation Unit, which has a capacity of 22 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:5 or 1:6, with charge nurses occasionally taking on patient assignments.
Required Skills and Certifications
Candidates must possess BLS certification; ACLS is recommended but not mandatory. Experience with common titratable and/or set rate drips, specifically Heparin, is essential.
Unit Dynamics
This is a fast-paced environment with a high turnover rate, managing discharges and admissions efficiently. The unit does not utilize ventilators, but it is heavily monitored with a focus on telemetry.
Scheduling and Requirements
Shifts include every other weekend and rotating holidays with permanent staff. There is no call requirement, but floating to med-surg may be necessary. Scrub colors are Caribbean Blue or White.
Additional Information
Orientation for this unit consists of three shifts, and nurses are responsible for their own EKGs and lab draws.
